This romantic B&B is located in a quiet street right in the heart of the historical center of Florence. I used to come here as a young lady and fell in love with it then. I live on the premises and am most often on site, ready to meet you for a chat or assist if you need help. The location is perfect for those who decide to stay in this magnificent city to visit Michelangelo's David, the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Pitti amongst many great sites.
The entrance leads our guests to two floors:
- the Maison Grand Tour on the patio level offer romantic rooms, with suites that sleep up to three people and freshly renovated bathrooms, with doors and windows opening to a plant filled patio far from the street.
- the Relais Grand Tour offers a guest Suite for up to 4, made up of two bedrooms, to be used as a standard double room (1 room only) with a large bathroom, or a family suite (2 rooms)… Located just one level up, only a few stairs (no lift). I live on this floor as well, in a separate part of the house.
The ambience is that of an elegant Florentine house with original 18th century floors, the hand-crafted lamps diffusing a soft light, the quiet elegance of the rooms furnished with antiques, the family paintings, the terracotta and the decorated ceilings.
Both the accommodations of the Relais & Maison Grand Tour underwent a restoration that lasted many years, during which the prior owners personally committed themselves to salvage and maintain the many ancient traces that came to light while restoring the property: hence the rebirth of a small private theatre from the 18th century with its stage and place for the audience that the owner of the house opens for friends and curious guests. The gold-leaf decorations of some of the rooms ceilings, the colored pavements, and then traces of frescoes in some of the suites, a 16th century fountain in the patio...
All which narrate a long history, and you will enjoy the warm atmosphere of each room so charming and romantic. The Grand Tour B&B is the ideal place for curious travelers that are looking for an elegant and old fashioned atmosphere of a Florentine home. Where you can find authentic and original things and enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
Since the owner, Ulrike, lives in the same place you chose for your vacation in Florence, it's easy to meet her and ask for tips about restaurants, museums, walking tours, wine tastings, places to visit. She knows Florence well, and will be happy to make sure that you experience the city like a local. She can tell you about the hidden art treasures, the most beautiful churches of Florence, the romantic walks along Ponte Vecchio and other treasures.
Ulrike is originally from Germany, but lived for three decades with her family in the United States. Taking care of the guests at the B&B is a lifelong dream come true, and she will try to make your stay as memorable as possible. She and her family used to spend their vacations in Tuscany every Easter & Summer growing up, and she feels blessed to be here, serving you.
A place of history with a personal touch.... At a perfect location right next to the busy streets of Florence, still being able to provide a calm and quiet atmosphere when you enter. It is a historic building with memories from the past and a story to tell. The host and owner is friendly and welcoming and she takes joy in giving the customer the experience they are after!
The Grand Tour This B&B is in the perfect location in Florence close to the city but still not in the middle of all the chaos. When you walk in you get the feeling that you are in the historic part of the city and it lookes like it. The host and owner is fabulous and knows how to great her guest and recommends the right places and spots that she likes and knows are good. I will recommend this B&B to other people if they want to get the feeling of being a Florentine.
Excellent Bed and Breakfast The Grand Tour was in a perfect location to walk to lots of the highlights of Florence. We had a charming room that was so comfortable. Ulrike Essex was a wonderful hostess with lot of great suggestions for sight seeing and eating. There was a self service laundry right down the street which was great.
We stayed in the beautiful Diva room, and found it elegant, comfortable, quiet and just what we needed after long days of visiting museums, churches, eating and shopping in fabulous Florence. The location is great, not too much traffic and yet still close to everything. Ulrike met us on arrival and spent some time with us giving us tips on how to get the most from our visit. I especially enjoyed the electric hot water kettle and selection of tea and coffee that was provided for a morning wake me up or a nighttime slow me down treat. We stayed two weeks in Italy, but sadly, only three nights in Florence. I wish we could have spent more time in this lovely B&B as it was a highlight of our trip.

Bit tricky to find, but was a great place to base ourselves for Firenze explorations. Easy walking distance to all the major sites. Elegant rooms, very comfortable. Super friendly service. Great little courtyard to sit and have a chat with other travellers. Reasonably priced. Would love to go back.
The owners live in the property and they treat all their guests like house guests. The owner was very helpful in pointing out the location of many nearby attractions and restaurants including a building just down the block that had a beautiful painting of the Last Supper. He explained that this painting was done before da Vinci's painting. There were other works of religious art in this building as well which was not shown in any guidebook and was not signed with any indication that such treasures were inside--and it was FREE! The hotel property is beautiful as are the rooms. We ended up with a suite which was reached by walking down a flower-lined, fragrant atria. The location was convenient to the train station (about 700 meters) as well as local historical sites. I would highly recommend the Relais Grand Tour to anyone visiting Florence.

We stayed in the "Actor's Suite". It was large and charmingly decorated. The room had lots of character and we felt we were living in another era. The owner was charming and gave us great suggestions for nearby restaurants. The location provided easy walking access to all of Florence.

Relais Grand Tour & Suites is so well located, we were able to walk to and visit 4 museums and 2 wonderful places to eat and shop. The owner, Ulrike is friendly, welcoming and very knowledgable about the area. She gave us excellent advice on where to eat. Our room and bathroom were clean and well appointed with interesting furniature. Everything in the area is ancient including this hotel. The walls have remnants of of actual frescos. With the hot, humid summer weather, we appreciated the AC unit that worked well.
Ulrike, the owner, was in contact via email with us before we arrived in Florence. She was quick to respond to questions that we had about location, easiest way to get to the BB from the central train station, and renting s car in Florence. She had great suggestions about what to do in Florence as well. She greeted us and took time to get to know us. We stayed in the two room suite which was clean and beautifully decorated. The rooms had a great AC system which was greatly appreciated after a long hot day of sightseeing in Florence. Showers were recently remodeled and were very spacious. The location is central to all Florence attractions and easy to get to the city center or Duomo area. We highly recommend this BB to families or couples.
Great room! We booked the I do it myself with Rick Steves/Rough Guide - The MOST convenient! It combines the "I do it myself" special and the additional 10% discount for Rick Steves/Rough Guide users. The offer "I do it myself" means you skip daily cleanings and linen change. At your arrival you have your room done and clean, with fresh bed linen and fresh towels (big, medium, small, and a shower mat) and keep them until check-out. This made our stay very convenient and with the large room and excellent bathroom, we were quite comfortable. Ulrike our hostess lived in the U.S. for over 30 years and speaks English perfectly. Our reservation included breakfast which was provided by a restaurant on the corner just a short walk (<2min.) away. The Florence Cathedral-The Duomo is about a 10-15min walk through town and the Uffizi is another 5min. from there. Great restaurants in the area as well.
